Ranch Assistant Need in Lemhi County

Position: Ranch Assistant

Overview: The ranch assistant will work with owner/operator irrigating, haying, working on machinery, fencing and riding the range during the summer months. They must be willing to work long hours during haying season in exchange for shorter hours the other times of the year. Fall and winter work will involve processing and sorting cattle, feeding and calving.

Employer: LC Ranch
Supervisor: Lowell Cerise, Owner/Operator
Salary: $1,800 to $2,500 dependent on experience and housing requirements
Fringe Benefits: Cash bonus if stay until October 1
     Housing and vehicle furnished
     Can bring 2 personal horses, hay/pasture and shoeing will be furnished
Hours: 40 hours per week except during during haying and calving seasons and then 60 hours per week
    Job starts April 1st 2010
    6-week probationary period

Job Duties:
• Swath, bale and stack hay – round bales
• Flood irrigate
• Herd cattle on federal lands and irrigated meadow pastures
• Repair fences
Possibility of small amount of pipe moving and wheel line moving
• Feed cattle using rounds bales
• Assist with branding, vaccinations, tagging and doctoring of cows and calves
• Check and assist cows and heifers when calving (may be asked to work nights)

Minimum qualifications:
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to pull horse trailer
• Experience running large equipment
• Ability to lift 30 pounds
• Experience moving cattle horseback in all types of terrain
• Experience in calving cows

Desired qualifications:
• Experience running mower and round baler
• Mechanic ability
• Agriculture background
• Ability to work alone and stay on task
