Soil Fumigation Stewardship Meetings

Idaho Department of Agriculture and manufactures and suppliers of soil fumigants are sponsoring workshops to review label requirements, discuss past incidents, as well as worker protection.  Other issues such as buffer zones, notification and other important regulations will be covered.

The meetings will be 2 hours long and refreshments will be provided.  There will be 2 units of pesticide re certification credit.

Lost River Master Gardening Workshops Begin April 11th

The University of Idaho Butte County Extension Office is offering a series of eleven gardening workshops on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, from 1 PM to 4 PM in the Business Center, in Arco.  The classes will cover a wide variety of subjects of interest to gardeners in the Lost Rivers Valleys.  Participants who pay the fee and complete the course, optional quizzes and 30 hours of volunteer work will receive certification as “Master Gardeners” and a $100 refund on their fees. 

We need 15 full time participants enrolled before April 11th in order to hold the gardening workshops.  For more information or to enroll, please call the Butte County Extension Office at 527-8587 or email butte@uidaho.edu.

Southeastern Idaho Forage Seminar March 16th

The Southeaster Idaho Forage Seminar will be held March 16th in Rexburg.  The program will be held at the Veteran's Building on the Madison County Fairgrounds.  Registration begins at 8:30 and the program will begin at 9:00 AM.  Registration is $20 and includes 3 units of CCA credit and 3 units of pesticide recertification credit.  Call 208-624-3103 if you have questions

Applicator Recert and Soil Health Workshop Jan 29th

The Butte Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a Soil Heath and Re-certification Workshop on Friday January 29th at the Valley Community Center in Moore.  The program will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 3:00 PM.  Lunch will be sponsored by the Irrigation Center of Arco.  Please contact the Soil conservation District at 208-527-8557 ext. 101 to let them know you are planning to come.  Please leave a message.  The program is FREE.

Cereal and Alfalfa Pest Management Workshop March 26th in Arco

The  University of Idaho Extension will be offering a great workshop on cereal and alfalfa pest management workshop on Thursday, March 26th, in Arco at the Arco-Butte Business Incubation Center at 159, North Idaho Street.  

We will be covering a number of pest management issues pertinent to high altitude forage and cereal operators.  We will also look as some issues that were a problem to some folks last year or may be important to operators related to conservation stewardship program.

beef Quality Assurance Training and Certification Feb 24th


University of Idaho in cooperation with Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-I) will be offering a Beef Quality Assurance training and certification on Tuesday February 24th, ,beginning at 5:00 PM.  The training and certification will be held at the BYU-I Livestock Center at 5350 Hwy 33, Rexburg.

Butte SCD Sponsors Soil Health Workshop January 29th in Arco


The Butte Soil and Water Conservation District (BSWCD) is sponsoring a Soil Health and Applicator Re-certification workshop on Wednesday, January 29th from 9:00 AM until 3 PM.  The workshop will be held in Suite 203 of the Arco Butte Business Incubation Center located at 159 N. Idaho Street in Arco, Idaho.

Lunch will be provide by the Irrigation Center of Arco, and 3 re-certification credits have been applied for.  Call Frances at the BSWCD in Arco at 208-527-8557 ext 101 to register and reserve a lunch.  Please leave a message in no one is available to take your call.

47th Annual Univeristy of Idaho Potato Conference and Ag Expo Jan 21-22

The 47th Annual University of Idaho Potato Conference and Ag.
Expo will be held on the ISU campus in Pocatello, 8:00 – 5:00, Wednesday, January 21 and 8:30 – 12:30, Thursday, January 22, 2015.

The conference covers a wide range of industry topics ranging from variety development, management practices and economics, marketing and political issues.  There are Idaho & Washington Department of Agriculture Pesticide Handler credits available in 26 of the 45, hour long presentations. There is also a series of 9 presentations on industry topics presented in Spanish. The Ag Show is held in Holt Arena and there is an extensive Trade Show in the ballroom of the SUB.  There is also a Grower-Speaker Social Wednesday evening, poolside at the Red Lion Inn.

The registration fee is $25.00 and you can register on site.
