TWO NATIVE PLANT MATERIAL WORKSHOPS
Grass & Forb Workshop
Tom Jones (ARS, Logan, UT) & Francis Kilkenny (USFS, Boise, ID)
Wednesday PM, lecture component
Thursday AM, lab component
The purpose of this workshop is two-fold:
1) to introduce the user of native plant materials to the various concepts and issues involving plant material development and their use, and
2) to educate the user regarding the various restoration species (organized by functional group) used in our region, the native plant materials that are currently available for each species, and how one may make appropriate choices among them.
Sagebrush Identification, Ecology, and Genetics Workshop Roger Rosentreter (BSU, Boise, ID) Bryce Richardson (USFS, Provo, UT)
Thursday PM
Black and white or shades of grey?
The genetic and phenotypic variation in sagebrush and the importance in recognizing the differences
This workshop will cover sagebrush identification (species and subspecies), soil preference, wildlife palatability, ecology, and patterns of variation. Specimens of many different types of sagebrush will be displayed, and black-light methods for identification will be demonstrated.
