Managing Nitrogen with Reference Strips

The University of Idaho Extension has recently released a new bulletin on managing nitrogen with reference strips and crop sensors.  The bulletin can be viewed and downloaded at no charge at  http://www.cals.uidaho.edu/edComm/pdf/BUL/BUL896.pdf.

Nitrogen is difficult to manage because it occurs in a variety of forms in the crop production environment and can change from form to form.  In addition, some forms are easily leached by excessive rain or irrigation.  Under other situations nitrogen can be lost to volitalization as ammonia gas or as nitrogen gas.  Reference strips and crop sensors can be an effective tool to help evaluate crop nitrogen status
