Stripe rust is still being reported in the Magic Valley
(Rupert, Hazleton through Twin Falls area) in both Brundage and WB 470. BOTH OF
THESE VARIETIES ARE SUSCEPTIBLE. Please follow label directions when applying
fungicides as many are not labeled for application beyond Feekes 10.5 (i.e. 50%
flowering). The areas affected are usually small "hot spots" and not
necessarily large acreages. WARMER weather is predicted, which should slow down
the rate of growth and spread of the fungus and initiate High Temperature Adult
Plant Resistance (HTAP); however, cool nights are still conducive for infection
even when daytime temperatures reach into the lower 80's.
Stripe rust has now been reported as far North as the
Shelley, ID area in a field of Brundage that was sprayed with fungicides at
herbicide application, and was sprayed again this week,
